Little Known Records Preview

10th March 2011

Last week we gave you a little promotional piece on a project one of the guys in Northbrook music department is undertaking. Little Known Records. I had a quick look over their facebook page and they’ve got some great stuff going on at the moment. One thing I noticed was they had a video of one of our ex-NSR DJs, Ruby Taylor, performing a track for them. As the video says “Although this won’t be featured on the upcoming compilation, it’s well worthy of a listen.”       Check it out below.

John Cage

14th December 2010

John Cage 4-33This is a short article from a Northbrook Student encouraging you to support a handful of charities through purchasing John Cage’s 4’33″ this week. The album, which includes seven remixes by the likes of Mr. Scruff and Aeroplane, is only £2.50 on iTunes (or 99p for a single) and the money raised will support highly worthwhile music & youth charities such as:

C.A.L.M (Campaign Against Living Miserably)

Youth Music

British Tinnitus Association

Nordoff-Robbins (Music Therapy)

Sound & Music

If you, like me, feel that you don’t give enough to charity over the holiday period, this is a great way to donate a small amount to charities which are certainly relevant to your lifestyle and passion, as a music radio listener. You may also want to see it as a silent protest against the corporate machine selling manufactured pop music and giving nothing back at Christmas time. You might enjoy the pun “Cage against the Machine”, or the discussion of John Cage’s original score as a cornerstone of conceptual art. I have bought this album for all of these reasons, and encourage you to do the same, through clicking this link or visiting www.catm.co.uk
